End-of-week Rundown

What a week. This week and last I’ve been pulling triple duty – days in rehearsal at Interact, nights at Pillsbury House, weekends at Menopause the Musical. I sort of hate being this busy because I like more down time than I’ve gotten. My sister pointed out, though, that I’m happier when I’m too busy than I am when I’m too idle. So, in keeping with the principles of being happy, a balance must be struck. Home closes tonight, though, so that’ll clear up my schedule significantly. I’ll have a few weeks of calm before the hurricane of load-in, tech, and opening Between the Worlds.

I’m totally looking forward to seeing some theater, though. I’ll probably take next weekend off, but then on the 10th I’m gonna Fringe all day and then Anton in Show Business at Starting Gate on the 11th.

Other than the hectic life of the theater I’ve been living, I’m good. Lots of friends, lots of drinks, lots of evenings out. I went to Cafe Barbette last week and ate myself silly. (I highly recommend the Croque Madame and the mussels. Oh, and the pâté is TO DIE FOR. My God.) Saw The Mountain Goats at the 400 Bar on Halloween.* It was awesome. I don’t always like live music, but these guys put on a show. The interstitial banter was clever, the music was rockin’ and in-the-moment, and the crowd was high-energy and adoring. So fun.

So there’s this part of Menopause the Musical where one of the characters goes out into the audience and does a little lap dance for a dude. Sometimes this can be problematic because, as you can imagine, Menopause the Musical doesn’t draw a whole lotta dudes. If there aren’t any men sitting in the first 15 or so rows, we have to plant one of the ushers. Now, my greatest concern is this: what if we accidentally sent the actress not to a dude, but to a lady. I mean, from the back (where the stage manager who picks the lucky fella sits) some female haircuts are awfully masculine. That would be embarrassing.

That’s all for now. I’m gearin’ up for a closing night party.

*Dressing up for Halloween is for little kids and skanky college girls. Go to the parties, eat the candy corn, and leave the costumes to the kids.
